Initial Review of a Website Prior to the Creation of a Development Site for Theme Migration
Before UAMS Web Services will create a development site and migrate a site’s content to the development site, the site editor(s) must review their site’s content.
Expectations of the Site Editor
Review Pages
After reading the articles contained in UAMS Web Services knowledge base topics for Style Guide and Web Accessibility, the site editor should review every page on the site, whether the page is published or not.
The following actions should be taken:
- Adjust the structure and formatting of each page to meet the guidance presented in the Style Guide and Web Accessibility knowledge base articles.
- Update or remove any outdated of incorrect information.
- Trash any pages that are no longer relevant.
- Trash any draft pages unless they are actively being worked on and will be published very soon.
- Write and include an excerpt for each page, summarizing the content of the page in 160 characters or less.
Review Posts
After reading the articles contained in UAMS Web Services knowledge base topics for Style Guide and Web Accessibility, the site editor should review every post on the site, whether the page is published or not.
The following actions should be taken:
- Adjust the structure and formatting of each post to meet the guidance presented in the Style Guide and Web Accessibility knowledge base topics.
- Update or remove any outdated of incorrect information.
- Trash any posts that are no longer relevant.
- Trash any draft posts unless they are actively being worked on and will be published very soon. Schedule the publish date of the post if necessary.
- Write and include an excerpt for each post, summarizing the content of the page in 160 characters or less.
Review Images
After reading the UAMS Web Services knowledge base article titled Best Practices for Creating Accessible Content, particularly the sections for “Add Accessible Images” and “Review Complex Images for Accessibility”, the site editor should review every image on the site.
The following actions should be taken:
- Review complex images such as organizational charts, infographics, data, graphs and maps. Remove or replace the images as appropriate.
- Trash any images that contain text if that image is not always accompanied by the same information in non-image text form. Update any pages or posts that previously used that image, adjusting the content to account for the loss of the image.
- Trash any unused images.
- Add alternative text to any remaining images.
Review Forms
After reading the articles contained in UAMS Web Services knowledge base topics for Style Guide and Web Accessibility, the site editor should review every form on the site.
The following actions should be taken:
- Trash any forms that are no longer needed. Leave any seasonal forms that are not currently used but will be used later.
- Update or remove any outdated of incorrect information.
- Update the text content of any forms (e.g., labels, options) to meet the guidance presented in the Style Guide and Web Accessibility knowledge base articles.
- Remove or adjust any forms that capture any Protected Health Information (PHI) so that not forms on this website collect that type of information.
- Review and adjust the notification settings of each form to ensure that notifications are being sent to the appropriate individual(s).
