Creating a New Provider Profile
Before Creating a New Provider Profile
Before you create a new profile, search in the existing profiles to ensure that there is not already a profile created. If there is already a profile for that provider, simply edit the existing profile.
Profile Name (a.k.a. Post Title)
This value is only displayed on the back end.
Name the profile using the following structure:
{Last Name}, {First Name} {Middle Name(s) or Middle Initial(s)} {Nickname in quotes} {Generational Suffix}
Example: McCoy, Leonard Horatio "Bones" Sr.
The provider’s full legal name can be used to distinguish them from other providers with similar names. Do not assume that a middle name does not exist just because it is not in the directory, the NPI registry or the provider’s CV. Ask the provider or another informed party if the provider’s legal name includes a middle name. If a middle name exists, include it here.
The Slug
A slug is the part of the profile URL that is unique to the provider’s profile. If the profile’s URL was https://uamshealth.com/provider/leonard-h-mccoy/
, the slug would be leonard-h-mccoy
.
Set the slug by clicking Edit beside the permalink, which is below the profile name.
Use the following structure, but in all lowercase:
{First Name or Initial}-{Middle Name or Initial}-{Last Name}-{Generational Suffix}
Example: leonard-h-mccoy-sr
Match the slug to the display name (minus any nickname), which is defined through the fields in the Details tab. Do not change the slug after the profile has been published.
If a change to the slug is necessary, contact UAMS Web Services so that the change can be made properly, redirecting the old profile URL to the new profile URL as well as changing the value in places that depend on the slug (e.g., Google My Business bulk imports).
The Details Tab
Fill out as many fields in the Details tab as possible.
Constructing the Display Name
When defining the values in the name fields, match what is defined as the External Name value in the provider’s SER record in Epic. This way, patients can easily find the provider’s profile based on how the provider is named in their documentation.
If the provider’s preferred name is a part of their legal name that is not included in that External Name in Epic (e.g., their middle name), include the preferred name in addition to the components of their name from the External Name value in the provider’s SER record. For example, if the External Name value is Leonard H. McCoy
, but their preferred name is their middle name (Horatio), define their name fields to generate a display name of Leonard Horatio McCoy.
If the provider’s preferred name is not a part of their legal name (e.g., a nickname) and is also not a part of the External Name value in the provider’s SER record, include this preferred name in addition to their first name and middle name(s) (or middle initial[s]). For example, if the External Name is Leonard H. McCoy, but their preferred name is a nickname (“Bones”), define their name fields to generate a display name of Leonard H. “Bones” McCoy.
If the provider’s full legal name includes a middle name, and if their full middle name is not part of their preferred name, still include the middle initial followed by a period. This can help users distinguish this provider from other providers with similar names.
First Name
If the provider’s preferred name includes their full legal first name or if the External Name value in the provider’s SER record includes their legal first name, include it here.
If the provider’s preferred name does not include their full legal first name, and if the External Name value in the provider’s SER record does not include their legal first name, include the first initial followed by a period.
Middle Name
If the provider’s preferred name includes their full legal middle name or if the External Name value in the provider’s SER record includes their legal middle name, include it here.
If the provider’s preferred name does not include their full legal middle name and if the External Name value in the provider’s SER record does not include their legal middle name, include the first initial followed by a period.
If the provider’s preferred name is something that is not a part of their full legal name (e.g., a nickname), add it to the Middle Name field following the middle name or middle initial, separated by a space and flanked by double quotation mark (e.g., H. "Bones"
).
If the provider’s legal name does not include a middle name and if they do not have a nickname, leave this field blank.
Last Name
Include the provider’s full last name as defined in the External Name value in the provider’s SER record.
Generational Suffix
Choose an option from the dropdown to define the provider’s generational suffix (e.g., Jr.
, Sr.
, III
).
Degree and/or Credential
Add the list of degrees and/or credentials to the Degree and/or Credential field. The items in this field can be rearranged to reflect the provider’s preferred order.
Prefix
In the Prefix field, select Dr.
only if the provider has the following degrees: M.D., D.D.S., D.O., DPM or O.D. This decision is based on the rules defined in the AP Stylebook.
Headshot (a.k.a. Portrait)
Portraits are added to the provider profiles by UAMS Web Services.
For more information, see Portraits on Provider Profiles.
The Clinical Profile Tab
While the Clinical Bio field is not required, it is heavily encouraged. It should be written with the patient in mind (e.g., What can the provider do for the patient? Why should the patient choose to make an appointment with this provider or with UAMS Health in general?). This bio should be written from the third person. Academic information should not be included in this bio, but instead in the Academic Bio field, which is under the Academic Profile tab.
The Short Bio field is also not required, but is heavily encouraged. This bio should be written from the third person. This short bio will be displayed in the list of Providers. If the field does not have a value, the full value from Short Bio will be used, but it will be truncated after a few lines followed by an ellipsis. The same goes for the provider page in search results. Having a short bio will present a complete thought and will look more professional.
If there is a YouTube or Vimeo video featuring the Provider, include the video’s URL in the YouTube Link field. It will be displayed after the Clinical Bio on the front end.
