Avoid Acronyms
Do not assume all users understand your acronyms.
According to the AP Stylebook, “A few universally recognized abbreviations are required in some circumstances. Some others are acceptable, depending on the context. But in general, avoid alphabet soup. Do not use abbreviations or acronyms that the reader would not quickly recognize. Abbreviations and most acronyms should be avoided in headlines.”
According to psychologicalscience.org, in many cases, abbreviations “can confuse and alienate unfamiliar audiences, and even well-intentioned writers and speakers may overestimate an audience’s familiarity with abbreviations …. Abbreviations saddle a reader with the chore of deciphering the meaning of words that could simply have been spelled out.”
Also, Google will not necessarily interpret that acronym and give the same weight the full phrase would otherwise bring to your search rankings.
